HAO Sole Pressure

It's been a while but I saw this little one was missing, and as I own the pedal and like it, I think it's a worthwhile addition.  So thought I'd try to get back into the game even if it's a bit diddy and embarrassing compared to what the other guys are posting :o)

Info about the original:

Like the Rust Driver, the HAO Sole Pressure was designed to recreate the classic sounds of one of the most desirable guitar amps in history – in this case, the legendary ’59 Tweed Bassman 4x10 combo. The HAO Sole Pressure contains carefully selected components that allow the user to dial in the smooth, creamy overdrive of this classic amp, right down to the characteristic low-end sag unique to the combo version. Dual knobs control Output and Drive levels while three switchable EQ curves offer plentiful tonal options without compromising your guitar sound. This dual control configuration also allows to the Sole Pressure to act as a semi-clean booster to coax more character out of your amp. If you’re looking for the classic Fender amp tone that defined a generation, the HAO Sole Pressure will let you achieve it with any guitar and amp in any playing situation, without the hassles of owning vintage gear.

  1. Great to see you back in the game! (Have another wee look at that 470n wink wink :P)

  2. Thanks mate, and goddam it! You can tell it's been a while :o)

  3. Verified and welcome back! Didn't plan on doing any builds today but it's small and I really like the Rust Driver so here we are. Sounds great with my P90 loaded Jag. The bright switch is subtle, but that's all you really need to go from too bright to just right.

  5. Personally im extremely dissapointed there is no polarity protection. Standards have dropped
Good to see you back matey!

  6. :o)

I would have except it was parallel in the scheme and as you know I'd rather stab myself with a fork than include parallel protection :)

    Thanks for verifying Servant07!

  7. Welcome back Mark!
    It's not embarassing at all!
    It's as good as always.
I'm sure most people are gonna end up building this project rather than a gigantic Lovetone DoppelGanger! :)
    Hope to see more layouts!

  8. Does this really have such a low input impedance (~58k)? Thanks for all the hard work!

  9. Could you replace the tone switch with a pot?

    1. You could do something similar by connecting Level 3 to pin 2 of the new tone pot, then connect pin 1 to the 1nf cap with the other side to ground, pin 3 to the 2n2 with the other side to ground. Then in one end of rotation the 1nf will be in circuit, in the other end of rotation, the 2n2. I'd probably try it with something fairly low value like 10K

  11. sounds great, just built one and it sounds as I expected it would for a distortion + with LED clipping

  12. Hi, is there a Link to schematic?

    1. look on freestompbox for the schematic. that's where I found it, and that's where most of these schematics originate. I just added a none more black version 1 schematic on there

  13. knocked this up but didn't have a 68p cap so used 33p instead, sounds good, really bassy though, I've ordered some 68p caps but how much of a difference will it make??

    ReplyDelete

    1. I'd expect it to be brighter with the 33p if anything. If you want it s bit brighter overall I'd swap the 100n input cap for a 68n or even 47n. An easy way would be to add another 100n in series with the input wire which will give you the equivalent of a 50n input cap. Maybe add it to a switch so you can have an additional bright and original switch

    2. awesome, thanks so much for the info, ill try for a touch more brightness, in fairness it'll have a tough job kicking the barefoot honey bee off the board

  14. I built this up on a breadboard first. Sounds good accept its very bass heavy when u put the switch on the 1n. I never could get the 2.2 on the switch to work. I tried several different 2.2n still wouldn't work.

    1. The switch is doing a pretty simple job, it either connects pin 1 or pin 3 to ground so if the 2n2 isn't working there must be a problem with the switch or the wire/connection from the 2n2 cap. You know the earth connection is good because the 1n works, so that eliminates that possibility.

  15. Built this. Sounds good. I had to reduce the input by a good degree as it was was a lot of bass.

LEDs sounded okay. But Si diodes, Ge diodes, and Mosfets sounded much better to me. I'll probably put a toggle switch for Si, Mosfet, or clippers.

    1. do you happen to have sounclips of the comparison? It would be interesting to hear!

    2. Sorry, no. But it's easy to do on your own. Just replace the input cap and LEDs with sockets. Then try different caps and diodes till you find what you like. If you like a few options, put them on toggle switches! Lowering the input cap value cuts bass. Using Si and Ge diodes adds more distortion than LEDs. No diodes adds a lot more volume and distortion is greatly reduced.

  18. Man I owe you a hundred Thank You's!!! I love your site. Your the man you started all of this. I have made over 100 of your layouts in the last 18 months Boxed with artwork. I sure appreciate this mountain of work and time you have put into this. The Site needs you and your expertise. You are extremely talented and knowledgeable.

I too have been getting the pinched nerve in the neck. It must be the long hours looking down and building stuff. I am 50 years old and decided to get my first massage ever . This 90 pound Asian lady worked me over like Rocky on a side of beef.It wasn't relaxing at all but man when she was done I was grateful. IT has been gone since then going on a month. I highly recommend getting a massage in that area it did wonders for me!

    1. Thanks for that my friend, I have had a sports physio massage a few times which didn't help too much, but I think a 90lb Asian lady with violent tendencies may do the world of good, so I'll look out for someone suitable :o)

  19. Cheers IvIark, great to see you back. I quite like this as is. Nice bassy distortion.

  20. the only schematic i could find uses a 500k reverse pot for gain, is the 100k better?

    ReplyDelete

    1. No it should be a 500K, typo. I'll correct it, thanks for the heads up

  22. Hi, I just finished building one, but is not sounding ok.
What I see it's strange, is that D1 is emitting light, is that ok?

  23. This is my first Vero build. The pedal works, and the tone is very nice. However, the gain pot is acting more like a volume control, and I'm not getting much dirt with both pots up all the way. I'm using the specified pots.

Also, the tone switch does not seem to have an effect. Any ideas? Could this be related to the LEDs (clear red) I'm using?

    1. My dear friend I'm not much of a debugger but try to swap the IC. Check out the connections again very good with and change another IC. You can put even different IC with more gain. This is low gain overdrive so don't expect too much.

    2. Thanks! The gain issue turned out to be the LEDS. For the tone switch, I had neglected to ground the middle lug :(

  24. Thanks so much for this. I built it a couple of days ago and just finished debugging a couple of iffy solder joints -- it sounds really, really good for such a simple circuit. It's a keeper.

Grato

  26. Good Day!
I am newbie here, can you please help me on my built.
I built it last night, sounds okay but it has a lot of bass, a lot.
Also, the Gain pot is acting like the Vol.
    Thank you!

  28. Just finished this and it works great! I forgot to order a 68p cap so I used a 100p at first which didn't work at all. Replaced it with the correct value and that did the trick. Thanks!
